Biography

Engr. Dr. Stephen Ogbonna Mbam currently works as Lecturer I at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ikwo, Nigeria. He obtained bachelor's and master's degrees in Mechanical/Production and Mechanical Engineering, respectively, both in Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka Nigeria. Engr. Dr. Mbam had practiced Engineering since 2007 and rose to the rank of Chartered Engineer (R. COREN) before joining the Nigerian academia in 2015. In July 2016, Engr. Mbam won the prestigious Chinese Scholarship Council (CSC) award to pursue his doctoral degree program at the College of Mechanics and Materials, Hohai University, Nanjing, P.R China. He completed his doctoral program in June 2020 majoring in Engineering Mechanics.
Under the supervision of Professor Gou, Xiaofan, and the corporation of his research group members, Dr. Stephen created the Novel Displacement-Energy Model (DEM) Approach for the simulation of the interface failure in multilayer Engineering Materials and Composites. In particular, the DEM approach can accurately characterize the residual stress distribution, delamination mechanisms, interface cracks growth rate, and fatigue life of multilayer film structures. Dr. Stephen’s excellent performance during his doctoral program earned several prestigious awards including The 2019/2020 Chinese Government Excellent International Scholar Award (National Level Award) and The 2019/2020 Jiangsu Provincial Government Outstanding International Scholar Award (State level award). His research areas include Mechanical, Mechatronic, and Material Engineering. Dr. Ogbonna is a citified reviewer of renowned peer-reviewed journals of Engineering. He has published as the first/lead author more than 10 articles in prestigious Science Citation Index (SCI) Journals for Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, and Materials Engineering. He has worked as an Associate Project Implementer in P.R China (2016-2020) titled “Basic Mechanics Related Issues of Advanced Materials and Structures and Multi-Scale Study on the Strain Dependence of the Critical Current of Polycrystalline REBCO Coated Conductors.

Engr. Dr. S. O. Mbam is specialized in Mechanics, Design, and Fabrication Technology of Machine Elements, Micro-Electro-Mechanical Machines (MEMS), and Micro-systems. He has 14 years of Engineering Practice which 10 years are in well-established academic institutions. Dr. Ogbonna has delivered expert lectures on topics related to his core research interests in several International Conferences and other peer research fora. Also, he had worked as Service Provider and Project Engineer for World Bank Assisted FADAMA III Project and United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), respectively.
